Formula and method

Room dimensions give floor area, ceiling area, perimeter and volume. Wall area is calculated from the room perimeter and height, doors and windows are deducted, and each material quantity is then derived from the net area using its own coverage rate and the shared waste percentage.

How to measure the inputs

Measure room length, width and height at the widest and tallest points.
Count doors and windows, and measure the width and height of each type.
Note the roll or pack sizes you intend to buy for paint, wallpaper and laminate.

Practical tips

Measure the room once, carefully, and everything downstream stays consistent.
Add the doors and windows you want deducted as counts and sizes.
Use the individual calculators afterwards if you need material-specific waste rates.

Assumptions

The room is rectangular with one height and full-height walls.
Every optional material you fill in is estimated from the same net wall or floor area.
Adhesive, primer, underlay, beading and fixings are not included.

Frequently asked questions

Why do paint, wallpaper and laminate all use the same waste figure?

A single figure keeps the estimate simple and consistent. If you want different allowances, run the individual paint, wallpaper or laminate calculators instead.

What happens if I leave a section empty?

That material is simply skipped. Fill only the lines you need, for example paint coats and a coverage rate for a painting job.

Why is the wallpaper result sometimes very high?

Wallpaper rolls are matched to wall height. If the roll is shorter than the wall, the calculator rounds up to the number of drops needed, which is what you actually buy.

Can I use it for one wall only?

No. It assumes a complete rectangular room. For a single wall, use the wall area or paint calculator instead.

Does it include ceilings?

It reports the ceiling area so you can price it, but it does not estimate ceiling-specific materials like ceiling paint separately.
