Smart Build Calculators

Flooring calculators

Work out how much flooring material a room needs before you buy: tiles, laminate, parquet, screed and skirting, plus the floor area they are all based on.

What you can calculate here

  • Floor area, perimeter and the same area with a waste allowance.
  • Piece, plank or package counts rounded up to what suppliers actually sell.
  • Levelling compound and screed quantities driven by layer thickness.

Flooring calculators

Tile Calculator

Estimate how many tiles a floor or wall needs, including a waste allowance for cuts, breakage and future repairs.

Laminate Calculator

Calculate how many packs of laminate to buy for a room, based on the floor area, the coverage printed on the pack and a cutting allowance.

Parquet Calculator

Plan a parquet floor purchase: the calculator returns the required area, individual plank count and whole packs to order.

Floor Area Calculator

Get the floor area, perimeter and waste-adjusted area for a room. These three numbers feed almost every other flooring and renovation calculator.

Skirting Board Calculator

Work out the skirting board length for a room, deduct door openings and convert the result into whole pieces to buy.

Floor Screed Calculator

Estimate screed volume and the mass of material needed for a floor, based on area, layer thickness and density.

Flooring questions

Which flooring calculator should I start with?

Start with the Floor Area Calculator if you only know the room size — the tile, laminate and parquet calculators use the same measurements.

How much waste should I add for flooring?

Straight lay rooms usually need 5–8 %. Diagonal or herringbone patterns and rooms with many cut-outs often need 10–15 %.
